I have spent a lot of my life in survival mode, and it has taken me a long time to learn how to come out of it. It has taken time to unlearn the feelings, patterns, and ways of being that once felt so normal to me. For a long time, anything other than survival felt unfamiliar, and unfamiliar WAS SCARY!
If you can relate and you have been living in survival mode for a long time, you probably know exactly what I mean. You can be in an environment that is actually SAFE, and still feel like you are on GUARD. Your body still reacts like something bad is about to happen. You still feel like you need to protect yourself, brace yourself, or stay alert, even when the danger is no longer there.
For me, that is part of why affirmations became so important.
They were one of the very first tools I started practicing, and I truly do not think I would be where I am today without them. Now, I am not saying affirmations will fix your entire life. Nope. They do not magically erase years of trauma or stress.
But I do believe in their power because I know that the way we speak to ourselves matters. The thoughts we repeat matter. The emotional environment we create inside ourselves matters. And over time, the repetition of affirmations can help us stop feeding fear and start practicing safety.

This is also why practices like meditation, self compassion, breathwork, and affirmations can be so powerful together. They help teach the body that the present moment is not always an emergency. They help us create new experiences of safety inside ourselves.
And if supportive tools help you stay steady while you practice this, Innertune has honestly been one of the apps that supported me on my journey. I have personally used it to stay consistent with affirmations, especially on the days when my mind wants to drift back into fear, overthinking, or old survival patterns.
What I like about it is that it gives me a simple way to return to the kind of thoughts and energy I actually want to build, instead of staying stuck in the ones that kept me on edge for so long. If you are curious about how it might support you, you can take this quiz to see how Innertune can help. What helped me actually stick with this

I’ll be honest, committing to just five minutes a day has been a game changer for me. I have focused less on making the practice perfect and more on building the habit. And over time, those five minute practices naturally became longer. Now there are days when my affirmation practice lasts over thirty minutes.
I also like pairing affirmations with my other healing practices. Usually I start with meditation, then move into journaling or release work, and after that I listen to affirmations with the help of the Innertune App. What I personally love about Innertune is the flexibility, the reminders, and the ability to record affirmations in my own voice, which makes the experience feel even more personal.
If you are curious about how it might support you, you can take this quiz to see how Innertune can help. And if you are not familiar with it yet, you can also read my article, Innertune App: Rewiring Positive Affirmations.
Other ways you can use affirmations
Try pairing them with:
- A few slow breaths
- A short body scan
- A hand over your heart
- A quiet walk
- A simple meditation session
- Journaling after you notice resistance

Final Thoughts
If you are still healing your relationship with safety, that is okay. You are not failing. It takes time to help your body come out of survival mode and learn a new way of being. Give yourself grace and stay strong, because now you are doing the work of breaking this pattern. You are learning how to step out of survival and into creation into a more grounded way of living. I truly hope these affirmations support you on that journey. 🫶
